This year, The Community Outreach Benefit's Block Party proceeds will reach out to 8 individual recipient and their families helping them find hope by alleviating some of the financial struggles brought on by extended illnesses and serious health conditions. Below are their condensed stories. What they endure on a daily basis would take a book to relay.




The financial struggles of individuals and familes, brought on by serious or chronic medial conditions, come in so many sizes and shapes. There struggles are as individual as their conditions. Many appear to be healthy, and able to manage. Yet, many our at the edge of their ability to just survive. Through your generosity we can help to make tomorrow a little brighter, and lighten their load. Thank You for your compassion for the suffering of others.
The 2008 Recipients

Robert Miller - Center Valley
Last October, Robert's employer went bankrupt and he lost his health insurance. As he was driving home from his temp job on December 27th, he started experiencing symptoms. His condition was diagnosed as thrombocytopenic purpura, a life-threatening blood clotting disorder. He spent a month in ICU. The on-going medical expenses are a daily medical catastrophe for Robert.

Kurt Linhart, Lower Milford
Kurt's life was dramatically changed when we was diagnosed with MS in 1995. He is in a wheelchair and receiving disability. The catastrophic medical expenses associated with Kurt's illness have all but depleted every dime of his and wife Barb's assets. Daily they wonder how long they will be able to keep their home.

Frank Kirka, Coopersburg

Frank has suffered several medical setbacks. He has diabetes, suffered a stroke, and has severe back problems. He is on disability and unable to work. Just monthly medications cost in excess of $5100.00.

Louann Martucci, Salisbury
After her divorce, Louann enrolled at Cedar Crest College full of hope and intent on making a new life for herself. A diagnosis of Breast Cancer halted all her plans and stopped her in her tracks. In the interim, her cancer has metastasized, and Louann now only subsists on SSI
David Bishop, Allentown
Chronic diabetes led to a below-the-knee amputation for David, and now he simply subsists on disability

Chrisie Lafrenz, Lower Milford
Sadly. Chrisie lost her battle and passed away on March 24, 2008. She was so uplifted and joyful about being chose as a recipient for this year's benefit. Her share of the proceeds this year will be given to her estate to be used for outstanding bills.

Juanita Miller, Allentown
Juanita suffers from numerous illnesses including Fibromyalgia, Asthma, Arthritis, and Depression. Her illnesses were contributory to ending her marriage and she now subsists on SSI.

Kim Snyder, Allentown

Bi-Polar disorder and back surgery have precluded Kim from getting and retaining a steady job. She works part-time at a supermarket to try to make ends meet, but the bills are mounting and their seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel for Kim.
Just a Thought... In a country so blessed with so many bounties, it would seem that Americans should have the best healthcare in the world. Politicians often claim that American enjoy best health care system in the world, but perhaps the problem lies in the fact that accessing the great healthcare system in some cases is a trade for mere survival.
We might ask that politicians consider the "quality of life" for those like our recipients who struggle each day to simply survive illness and the financial burden it brings with it.
